There are a number of indoor games you can play, which will help improve your putting skills.
The first putting game will help improve your putting stroke. Simply place two, thick books on the floor, so that they create a channel your putting can swing through. Place your ball inside the channel and practice your putting stroke, using the two books as a guide for your swing path. You can also place marks on the books, which will enable you to judge the length of your swing, on both sides of the ball.
This game will help you achieve a good, consistent swing path with your putter.
The second putting game, will help you improve the pace of your putting. Find a room, at home or work, that has a carpet and a free wall, with no obstacles in the way. Take 5 balls and set them up at a distance of your choosing, away from the wall. The object of the game, is to putt each ball as close to the wall as you can but without actually touching it. Once you have mastered the first distance, move the balls closer or further away and continue as before.
This game will help you judge the pace of your putting and also your distance judgement and control.
The final putting game is very simple to set-up and play. Take a mug and place it somewhere on a carpeted floor. Starting quite close to the mug, try to hit the ball in to it. Once you are consistently successful at the first distance, move a foot away and try again. See how far away you can get using 5 balls and then start again. Once you are competent using 5 balls, try 10.
This game will help with your putting alignment and in conjunction with the two previous games, will improve your overall putting skills.
So far, our indoor putting games have all been for the individual but this one is to be played with friends.
To set-up, cut out five circles of paper at 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 inches in diameter. The game starts with each player, in turn, attempting to putt a ball from 3 feet away from the 12 inch piece of paper. Once a player has made their ball come to rest on the paper 3 times, they can move to the 10 inch piece of paper. However, this time, the putting must take place from 4 feet away. The game continues in the same way, as each player putts from 6 feet on the 8 inch circle, 8 feet on the 6 inch circle and finally, 10 feet on the 4 inch circle.
This game is great fun and can be a good way to spend an evening with friends, socialising and practicing golf.
