Jim Nance wasn’t very dignified in the CBS broadcast booth Saturday afternoon, he was basically begging and pleading for Tiger Woods to show up and play in the Wednesday par three event at the 2022 Masters.
Nance’s plea came as Woods said “I can play that tomorrow” referring to walking the short course located behind the cottages at Augusta National Golf Club.
Tiger didn’t sound the least bit interested in showing up in what would amount to a ceremonial appearance.
Tiger side-stepped Nance’s pleading and groveling. “Tiger — we need you!” Nance said, stumping for CBS and a ratings surge that would come with Tiger at least showing up for the Wednesday afternoon event.
Nance also tried to back Woods into a corner as to when he’ll play again, pointing out that the final three majors of the season are all playing on courses where Tiger has performed well in the past — the PGA at Southern Hills (May), the U.S. Open at The Country Club in Brookline, MA. (June), and the Open Championship at St. Andrews (The Old Course) in July.
“Which of those is the easiest walk?” Nance asked Woods, trying to bait Tiger into an indication of where he might show up. At that point, Woods totally ignored Nance’s trick question and did a skillful tap-dance, talking more about what he faces in his rehab process.
Nice try Jim. You threw out the bait but Tiger was having none of it.
Bernard Langer Racks Up Senior Victory No. 43:
Ageless Bernhard Langer is now just two victories short of Hale Irwin’s record 45 senior victories.
Langer opened the Chubb Classic on Friday by shooting his age — 64 — on Tiburon Golf Club’s Black Course. Over the weekend, he shot back-to-back rounds of 68 and finished at 16-under par 200, three shots better than runnerup Tim Petrovic.
“I just feel good around the golf course,” Langer said. He was a fairway-hitting machine. “And my short game was good all week,” Langer added.
Langer finally admitted that Irwin’s 46 wins are coming into his mind. “More and more,” Langer said, “I’m coming after you Hale!” he said with a big smile and laugh.
Retief Goosen took solo third at 12-under par.
David Duval made his Champions Tour debut and shot rounds of 80-75-72. He finished 11-over par, tied for 68th.
2022 Bob Jones Award Goes To Juli Inkster:
Five-time USGA champion Juli Inkster has been named as the 2022 recipient of the Bob Jones Award.
The award is the USGA’s highest honor — it recognizes sportsmanship, character and respect for the game of golf.
USGA CEO Mike Whan said this of Inkster:
“Juli exemplifies the true nature of this award in every way. The game of golf is better because Juli is in it. She has earned respect throughout her impressive playing journey, beginning with three consecutive U.S. Women’s Amateur wins all the way through her senior career. But more than that, her mentorship to other players has had a tremendous impact on so many. We are very lucky to have her in the USGA family and are thrilled to honor her with this prestigious award.”

The legendary broadcaster was trying to ask the right questions but like some nervous rookie wanted to ask them all at the same time and fumbled worst than Mark Sanchez.
Jim did come back to trying to ask about playing the actual mAsters and got Tiger to say “I don’t know” which Jim responded by interpreting that it is not completely off the table. So did I. He should have tried to elaborate there. But Jim still ironically fumbling his own words goes on to ask about the par 3; which was such a distraction.
Btw espn still broadcasts the par 3. Not cbs.
