The good news is that Michelle Wie hung in there for the good old U.S.A. down in Mexico City at the Lorena Ochoa Match Play.
Wie’s year of the comeback continued as she reached the Final Four.
That was the good news. The bad news is that she had to go up against Ariya Jutanugarn in their semi-final match. That’s where the road ended for Wie. Jutanugarn was too young, too strong and too good. She won 4-and-3.
Wie would go on to lose a heartbreaker in the consolation match to M.J. Hur. It took 22 holes to figure out who would finish third.
In the other semi, Sei Young Kim ousted M.J. Hur, 1-up.
Kim would go on to win it all. She beat Jutanugarn, 1-up. Kim trailed only four of the 95 holes she played last week at the Club de Golf Mexico down in Mexico City.
Kim gave no indication she would prevail this week. She missed the cut last week and hasn’t played that well this year. “I never had a win as hard as today,” she admitted after taking down Jutanugarn.
Hard work, yes.
Big win, certainly.
