False alarm.
The deadline for Tiger Woods to enter the RSM Classic came and went on Friday — there will be no Tiger Woods at the Harbour Town Golf Links.
Speculation began last week when Woods’ luxury yacht — Privacy — set sail and eventually docked at St. Simons Island. RSM Classic folks were hoping it was on their way to the Harbour Town marina.
Woods hasn’t played at Harbour Town in 11 years and he won’t again next week.
But the tournament will have an awesome field. All of the world’s top five players — headed by No. 1 Rory McIlroy — will be in the field.
In all, there will be a total of 114 players in the field who have won on the PGA Tour.
Will Zalatoris Leads Korn Ferry Challenge:
Will Zalatoris got in a lot of work over the three-month shutdown of the Korn Ferry Tour.
He plays at the Maridoe Club outside Dallas, a course frequented by a number of tour players. Zalatoris estimates he played five times a week with former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who has become a mentor to Zalatoris. Most days, Zalatoris’ roommate, Davis Riley, would join. (Riley, who Zalatoris beat in the U.S. Junior final almost six years ago, is already a winner on the Korn Ferry Tour this year.)
Those matches also included Tour pros, such as Ryan Palmer, Kramer Hickok, Scottie Scheffler and three-time major champion Jordan Spieth.
Obviously Zalatoris was ready to go and after a 65 on Saturday at the Dye Valley Course, he’ll take a one-shot lead into the final round of the Korn Ferry Challenge at Ponte Vedra Beach.
He’s in at 10-under par, a shot clear of PGA Tour members Joseph Bramlett and Luke List, Lee Hodges and Chase Wright.
“I’ve shot 10 under the last three days on a pretty tough golf course,” said Zalatoris, who had six birdies in his rond. “I feel like every aspect of my game is clicking.”
