Okay, following along if you can.
Jordan Spieth missed the cut at the Deutsche Bank, heck he has missed the cut at both of the FedEx Cup Playoff events so far. Didn’t matter, he went from No. 2 to No. 1.
At the Barclays, Rory McIlroy didn’t play but went from No. 2 to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
AS we pointed out above, Jordan Spieth missed the cut at the Deutsche Bank, Rory didn’t, yet Spieth went back to No. 1 and Rory dropped to No. 2.
Now here’s where it gets REALLY interesting — neither player was on the course this week yet Rory went back to No. 1 and Spieth fell to No. 2.
Confused? You’re not alone.
Here’s the way the top five shake out going into this week BMW in Chicago:
No. 1: Rory McIlroy 11.98
No. 2: Jordan Spieth 11.95
No. 3: Jason Day 10.94
No. 4: Bubba Watson 8.65
No. 5: Rickie Fowler 7.77
What you can see from all of this is that the top three are basically interchangeable depending on who does what and where.
Back in the days of yore when Tiger Woods was beating up on everyone, we all knew who was No. 1.
Now, not so much.
