For many golfers, winter is a time when playing golf can become difficult, especially in many European and North American countries. The weather is doing something different every day and once winter finally takes hold, the conditions are such that playing golf becomes impossible.
However, this is a great time to look at your golf bag and get it organised properly, ready for when the golf season starts up again.
When you are playing golf and concentrating on each shot, attempting to make the lowest score possible, the last thing you need is to be distracted by having to search through your bag to find the right club. Not only will organising your bag speed up your playing time, it will also protect your golf clubs when your bag is being moved, which could save you money in the long term.
The first step to organising your golf bag, is to take all the clubs out of it and empty the pockets. The putter, should be placed in the back of the bag, nearest the straps and on some bags, there is a putter sleeve for this purpose but on other bags, it will simply be a case of slotting it in there. The driver and woods should also be stored in the back of the bag but make sure the driver is on the left and the woods are on the right, going in size order from the longest to the shortest.
Mid-range clubs, starting at the 3 iron to the 7 iron, should be inserted one section down from the driver and woods. These clubs should be arranged from longest to shortest, going from left to right. Not only will this allow you to easily find the iron you require, it will keep your golf bag balanced when in motion.
The front of your bag, which is the section furthest away from the handle, should store your short clubs, including the 8 and 9 irons and wedges. Again, the longer clubs should start on the left, working their way across, with the shortest on the right.
Add golf balls and tees to one of the side pockets and if there is a long section, which extends the whole length of the bag, you can use this to carry your shoes. Always keep one small section empty, as you will want to carry some drinks and food with you when playing a round of golf.
Always return clubs and items to their correct position after use and you will be organised, every time you play.
