About the author

Tom Edrington

Tom Edrington spent the first 10 years of his misguided youth as a sports writer for the Tampa Tribune. His career brought him face to face with many of sports greatest stars -- Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Muhammad Ali, Don Shula, countless Hall of Fame NFL stars, more PGA Tour players than he can count. In 1980 he was honored by the Golf Writers Association of America for writing the best news story that year, his coverage of Jack Nicklaus' U.S. Open victory at Baltusrol. Today, 36 years later, golf is still a great part of his life, thanks to competitive playing days and the wonderful people he has met on this fabulous journey.

Of course this guy gives his blessing. But after that incredible course in Vegas these 2 played last time, it’s hard to get pumped about Florida tracks.

      I’ll be heading out to walk nine holes today at historic Rodgers Park here in Tampa; open but closed; no one’s there, walking only, honor system, drop money in the box; pool noodle cut to size in holes around flagstick, ball goes in hole about 3/8 inch, easy to pick out, no water coolers, no ball washers and not many people out either; when you mandate walking, our out-of-shapers don’t show;

        That’s awesome Tom. Have FUN!

our ocean from muni is year round No carts (one dangerous area) which means no crowds.
But sadly It’s closed until at least May.

And I’m Not sure what the situation is at a nearby resort on a bay named after turtles.

I don’t quite understand your description of the Hole and the noodle and the 3/8. But I wish my muni does something like that starting in May.

Does it still look like a Normal golf hole?
And curious how much Cash do they expect in the honesty box ?

They take a pool noodle, cut it enough to fill most of the cup, the hole in the middle of the shortened noodle allows the flagstick to go through it, kinda like a collar, if you will, cut to a length that allows ball to go into the hole, with about 2/3 of ball in the hole, easy to pick out without touching anything; Played a quick nine Friday with 1967 Florida state high school champion Kim Schwencke, who to this day remains a really, really good player.

            Thanks for clarifying.
            Yea that’s a great idea.

Even a noodle as the flag, bump the ball into the noodle (no hole) would work.

Regardless I called the super at my muni trying to plant seeds for May. I really like the honesty box idea…

Some courses in HI had done similar things before closing. They have a meeting on the 24th to decide what will happen in May.

            Fingers crossed.

Optishot in our car port is nice but it just isn’t the same.
But Shout out to optishot, which We bought many years ago and still works; refreshing compared to the macs and apples we own.

And Recently optishot sent us software for version 2 FREE!

Baxter: the noodle is inside the cup, flagstick still in; One thing that may come out of this is more and more players leaving the flagstick in all the time; I don’t think anyone’s putting two-footers these days…
