Russell Henley will try and put the past behind him and will have a chance to notch his fourth PGA Tour win on Sunday at the Sony Open.
Henley, the 2013 champion, has converted only one of his five 54-hole leads. He takes a two-shot lead into Sunday’s final 18 at Waialae Country Club.
Henley salvaged a shaky Saturday effort with birdies at the 15th and 17th holes but failed to convert a third at the 18th. He did manage to shoot 67 and he’s 18-under par, a slim two-shot ahead of Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama. Matsuyama was the hottest player on the course on moving day. His seven-under par 63 got him to 16-under and a spot in the final twosome with Henley.
Matsuyama is trending in the right direction with rounds of 66-65-63 while Henley’s 67 saw his lead cut from three shots at the start of the day to two going into the final 18.
Seamus Power, Matt Kuchar and Haotong Li were tied at 14-under par.
