This one’s ours.
This is America’s Holiday, America’s time, a time for all of us to give thanks for the important things in life.
So let’s get right to it, shall we?
First we’d like to thank all of you who partake in the weekly offerings that are DogLegNews. We appreciate you, we appreciate the time it takes to read and we appreciate those who take the time to comment and express their thoughts on our thoughts.
I believe we’re all in agreement when we give thanks for our great country, the GREATEST in the world, no one’s even close.
We’re thankful for good health, friends, family, our wonderful, devoted military men and women and our brave first responders who protect us and save us when we get into trouble.
We’re thankful for our right to voice our opinions and the freedom of religion. We appreciate and honor those who have defended life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness that is available to us as U.S. citizens.
And then the less important stuff.
We are thankful for this game called golf.
We are thankful for its difficulty, its history and the reward that comes with hitting that one, perfect shot, even if those are few and far between for most of us.
We are thankful for the millions who play this game, who continue on the path, who make the journey, who walk the walk.
Gary Player once said: Golf is a puzzle to which there is no answer. Thanks to everyone out there who searches for answers to that seemingly unsolvable puzzle.
After playing golf for more than 57 years, I’ve come to some realizations that golf is a lot like life.
Life makes no promises. Golf is the same.
Life is what you make of it. So is golf.
Life is full of ups and downs. Ditto for golf, no matter who you are, no matter how good or lousy you are when it comes to this game.
Life is a constant challenge. Golf as well.
Life is better with friends around. So is golf.
Life is a family game. Golf is best when shared with family.
Live long enough and life wears on your physical abilities. Play golf long enough and it does the same.
Life is better with the occasional adult beverage. Golf checks that box, too.
Life will be full of surprises and disappointments. Golf totally lives up to that.
Success in life is successfully navigating its hazards. Same for golf.
It is important in life to give thanks, to live it with an attitude of gratitude. Golf is all about attitude, always.
Life is often tough to understand. Same for golf.
At the end of the day, it’s about happiness and enjoyment of life. There are too many miserable golfers out there.
If all goes well in life, we are able to get up in the morning and give it another try.
Same for golf. No matter what happens, golf is a day-to-day proposition.
And life is exactly the same.
We’re all day-to-day and hoping for another day, and another round of golf when there’s time.
And that’s the common dilemma of life and golf.
There’s never enough time.
Happy Thanksgiving!
