Tom Edrington

Tom Edrington spent the first 10 years of his misguided youth as a sports writer for the Tampa Tribune. His career brought him face to face with many of sports greatest stars -- Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Muhammad Ali, Don Shula, countless Hall of Fame NFL stars, more PGA Tour players than he can count. In 1980 he was honored by the Golf Writers Association of America for writing the best news story that year, his coverage of Jack Nicklaus' U.S. Open victory at Baltusrol. Today, 36 years later, golf is still a great part of his life, thanks to competitive playing days and the wonderful people he has met on this fabulous journey.

The national news articles jet tracking private planes are just creepy. The whole thing is the latest indictment of today’s mainstream news; which use everything from gps tracking systems to smartphones to force feed us ridiculous information like this. I just find it so unfair people can not only study people like Tigers flight plan, but they can make money publishing it.

As for what is news, that Tiger was at the site of the first major of the year:
    Yes he will play.

Yes Augusta is very hilly but it’s also golf heaven on earth. The floating-on-clouds feeling everyone gets on that property will help Tiger.

Walking Augusta has been an issue for Tigers legs since the 2000s at some point; I watched him carefully walk 9 practice holes the last time he won. That effort on a broken knee at Torrey will also help Tiger get around the Masters this year.

I was almost offended when everyone acted like Tigers last win at Augusta was some kind of a miracle. It was amazing, but by the time that week came around it was rather predictable, which is exactly what I did. Predict it.

I’m not sure Tiger will be my pick as we approach this years Masters — not ruling it out— but as I’ve been saying for a while it’s important IMO he play this year in order to be a great pick next year.

Baxter: Most have already forgotten but Tiger’s last “real” competition was the 2020 playing of The Masters that was moved to November of that year; Tiger’s always the guy who says “I need reps” and he has had virtually none in real competition; Do hope it plays, ratings will soar!!!!

Everyone needs reps. But I believe tigers always needed reps because he can show it to events to revved up. But I think it’s different now. Tiger is showing up to events much more relaxed, much more within himself. I think he is in a phase of his life and career he can show up rep free and contend.
