So what did Tiger Woods do when he missed the 36-hole cut at the 150th Open Championship?
Easy — he loaded up Air Tiger and flew to the island of Mallorca, home of tennis star Rafa Nadal. No, no lunch date with fellow Nike star Nadal, it was a golf trip with son Charlie.
Woods went to the Arabella Golf Complex at Palma de Mallorca for some golf on the Son Quint course, one of three at the facility.
Woods and Charlie took in scenic views of Palma Bay and Mallorca’s historic cathedral.
Nice summer break for Charlie, who heads back to school at the end of August. We most likely will see the pair in November at the PNC Championship where they came close to winning last year.
Woods’ next competitive professional appearance should come at his Hero World Open at Albany in the Bahamas in December.
Jin Young Ko Heads Field At Scottish Open:
The European tour for the ladies continues this week at the Dumbarnie Golf Links in Ayrshire. World No. 1 Jin Young Ko heads the field along with fellow stars Minjee Lee, Lydia Ko and Sei Young Kim. Biggest American name in the field is Jennifer Kupcho — Nelly Korda and Lexi Thompson are skipping this event.
Defending champion is Ryan O’Toole. The 35-year-old had been considering calling it quits until her breakthrough win last year.
O’Toole rode that momentum through the rest of 2021, carding five top-20 finishes, and it’s continued well into the 2022 season as Ryann has notched two top-10s and two additional top-15s in 14 events this year. Although she missed the cut at the Evian, she’s been trending in the right direction and she’s hoping to continue that good form in her title defense.
“I’ve been analyzing that, wondering, was it this elephant off my back, this feeling of pressure being released or whatnot,” she said. “Yes, obviously winning. But winning came with other elements as far as, okay, now I won and I thought now once I broke that seal, I thought I would win again and again and it would be easier, and that’s not the case. I’m still trying to figure out how to get back there or how to keep myself from getting in my own way to be back there.”
Charles Barkley Wants $60 Million To Blab On The LIV Exhibition:
This week’s pressing LIV exhibition series question:
Is Greg Norman dumb enough to hand Charles Barkley $60 million to blabbermouth his way around those wonderful LIV U-Tube broadcasts that are watched by literally thousands of sucker, er fans?
Well, the answer most likely is no, if Greg values keeping his head attached to his shoulders.
Barkley visited the Dan Patrick Show on ESPN last week and confirmed the LIV was talking to him about joining the broadcast team.
Barkley didn’t say what his demands were but Patrick eventually pried it out of him, asking The Round Mound Of Rebound if his number was $20 million.
“Triple it,” Barkley responded.
So $60 million for Barkley? Well, they already have aging David Feherty, a quick-witted former player so where exactly would Barkley fit in?
Barkley payed in the LIV pro-am on Tuesday — no word is the Crown Prince is enough of an NBA fan to pay Barkley his number. Barkley already has a lucrative deal with TNT and tons of endorsement deals.
Sergio Backtracks On Hatred For DP World Tour:
The last time anyone heard from Sergio Garcia he was spewing his venomous dislike for the DP World Tour.
Well, it looks like Sergio is trying to remove his Adidas shoe from his mouth and going for a mea culpa.
At the Open Championship he said he “would probably leave” the European circuit. Now he’s not so sure.
Garcia told ESPN blabbermouth Michael Collins that although he’s playing the LIV, he wants to continue his membership with the DP World Tour.
The reaction from DP World Tour CEO Keith Pelley?
“That’s great,” Pelley said, “but we got to do what’s best for us. We’ll see what that is.”

Great to see Tiger and Charlie enjoying the elite tour of recreational play.
Barkley’s number is high but IMO something close to that is worth it.
There are similarities with Barkley and Feherty but there are also key differences. David is a euro pro and Chuck is a beloved American recreational player; an Everyman of golf.
They are both amazing interviewers—the type that make stars come out of their shell— but they likely would ask very different questions. I feel like they could both interview Brooks and come out with two completely different things. But they would both be very entertaining.
Throw McCord in the mix and you have that times 3.
I think all 3 of those guys are needed in these first 5 years for LIv.
I really don’t know how cbs let both David and McCord go but that decision
May come to haunt them more than LIv is haunting Monahan.
As for Sergio:
Sergio clearly wants to stay involved with the euros tour and the Ryder cup.
Sergio being Sergio he cried a bit about not feeling the love from them. John rahm to the rescue; stating his anger someone like Sergio cannot be involved in the Ryder Cup.
So now not only has Rory back tracked on LIv but now rahm, who has been the most ‘don’t bug me with all this drama’ is taking a stance for players like Sergio who went to Liv.
I’m glad rahm and Rory are being smarter than Pelley and Monahan in not be stuck in their self destructive stances. These players will be key to moving things forward. Which make no mistake forward includes LIv in a big way.
