Forget water, out-of-bounds, bushes and bad lies.
The real hazards at this week’s CIMB Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, are typhoid and bad air.
Yes, that was the warning our American tour players received from the PGA Tour prior to the event that begins tomorrow at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.
So defending champion Ryan Moore and the rest of the field shouldn’t drink the water. It’s bottled water only and water that has been thoroughly boiled. As for the air, there’s a lot of that bad stuff going on in the Far East, especially in China where you routinely see folks walking the streets wearing surgical masks.
Moore is one of the favorites to repeat. He’ll have plenty of competition.
Patrick Reed’s coming in after a third place finish in Hong Kong and then there’s the higher-end version of Kevin Na and that would be Henrik Stenson, who has a penchant for second-place finishes as witnessed in the FedEx Cup chase. In all, Stenson had five runner-ups in 2015, almost equally the eight that Na has in his entire career.
Gary Woodland finished second last year at this layout and figures to be in the picture again, if he can avoid the water, drinking water that is.
As for the typhoid, there have been 52 cases reported over there since August so tell the boys not to be high-fiving it with the crowds.
Safety first.

To your editor in chief, you sound just like a typical lost American who has never ever been to Asia! Malaysia is a long way from China idiot. The air in Malaysia is perfect. China is north. The wind blows from east to west …moron.
