This new USGA president, her name escapes me…….would that be Donna Murphy, er, Debbie Murphy, uhhhhh, Kathie Murphy, wait, we’ll get it —- Donnie Murphy?

Well, that’s about the way the trophy ceremony went after Brittany Lang, that’s Brittany with a capital “B”, a couple of “ts” and an “any” won the Women’s U.S. Open title on Sunday.
If you look down the list of the top 100 women golfers in the world, there is no one named “Bethany.”
Well friends, fans and mostly haters of all things USGA, that is precisely what Debbie, oops, we mean DIANE Murphy called the newest USGA champion on Sunday afternoon at CordeValle.
During the presentation of the trophy to Lang, Murphy called her “Bethany” not once, not twice, not three times but FOUR TIMES!!!
This woman has been hanging around Joe Buck too long.
There are NO golfers in the top 100 named “Bethany.” None, zero, zip, nada.
Yes, considering the controversy of the men’s event followed by the tardy delivery of the two-shot penalty on Anna Nordqvist earlier Sunday, well, Murphy’s tour of duty thus far is a total disaster.
Nice job Debbie, ooops, we meant Diane.
This is one of those times when, after she referred to her twice as “Bethany,” perhaps Lang should simply have blurted out, “It’s “BRITTANY” and be sure you get it right on the trophy!!!”
Afterward, Murphy blathered out some sort of apology but there’s no excuse for this sort of thing.
None, absolutely none.

Amazing is the first word that comes to mind. By the way, she never actually referred to the tournament properly. It is the u.s. women’s open. she never called it that she just said something like the u.s. tournament.
she may very well be an exceptional person other than public speaking, so i say get someone who does want and can do the public speaking portion of the ceremonies.

We have chronicled Lydia’s achievements on this site, typically in the majors where she has had so much success, didn’t get the US Open but we will be putting up a piece on this latest win, it’s amazing it took her four tries to birdie a par five, but if you give her that many tries, she will eventually prevail as she did once again.
