Oh that sneaky Tiger Woods.
No wonder his game was so-so before and during the FedEx Cup playoffs.
His left knee was ailing.
On Tuesday, Woods finally came clean and revealed that he recently underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair minor ligament damage in his left knee.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Vern Cooley of Park City, Utah, who said, “I expect Tiger to make a full recovery.” In case you’ve lost count, this was the fifth time that Woods has undergone a surgical procedure on his left knee, at least three of which have been done by Cooley. Woods also has had four, count’em, — four back surgeries.
El Tigre has been walking about and can start practicing in a couple of weeks.
Woods said he’s still on track to play in a skins game in Japan then compete in the Zozo Championship there in October.
Tiger will turn 44 in December.
Viktor Hovland Locks Up His Tour Card:
Matthew Wolff (Oklahoma State) and Collin Morikawa (Cal Berkeley) came out of school this summer, scored spectacular wins on the PGA Tour and earned instant playing privileges for the next two seasons.
Viktor Hovland (Oklahoma State), the 2018 U.S. Amateur champion, wasn’t as fortunate. He didn’t make enough money in his limited 2019 appearances and had to go to what we call The Tour School or the Corn Fairy (aka Korn Ferry) Tour Finals.
Two of the three events are in the books and Viktor has played well enough to rank third on the money list for the finals behind Matthew Nesmith and Brandon Hagy. That means that Hovland has locked up a spot in the Corn Fairy (aka Korn Ferry) finals and will graduate onto the PGA Tour. The top 25 in the finals win their tour cards along with the top 25 regular season guys from the Corn Fairy (aka Korn Ferry) Tour.
Hovland was the highest profile collegiate player with Wolff pretty close. Wolff was the 2019 NCAA individual champion. Morikawa was the surprise guy of the three but ended up playing the best. Both Wolff and Morikawa made it into the FedEx Cup playoffs. Wolff bowed out after the Northern Trust, Morikawa made it to the BMW. Morikawa finished 59th in the standings, Wolff 74th.
So now Hovland joins them for the 2019-2020 season.
Should be interesting to see how all three perform for a full season.
