Tom Edrington

Tom Edrington spent the first 10 years of his misguided youth as a sports writer for the Tampa Tribune. His career brought him face to face with many of sports greatest stars -- Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Muhammad Ali, Don Shula, countless Hall of Fame NFL stars, more PGA Tour players than he can count. In 1980 he was honored by the Golf Writers Association of America for writing the best news story that year, his coverage of Jack Nicklaus' U.S. Open victory at Baltusrol. Today, 36 years later, golf is still a great part of his life, thanks to competitive playing days and the wonderful people he has met on this fabulous journey.

Again, the Ryder cup would be a true great distraction from the worlds problems.
requiring only 24 players representing their country is much safer as opposed to All these 150 man solo events, which are nice for golf geeks but not nearly as desired by the masses as the Ryder cup; with it without fans.
But it’s clear the one event which should run, even if it’s the one most not the same without fans, will be the one which gets canned.

If it is postponed, it will be interesting to see what happens next year with the Olympics and Presidents Cup scheduled. Moving the presidents cup back a year means the Ryder cup pushes its next event back a year also.

I believe the Ryder Cup was in odd years until 9-11; So this puts it back on original track.

With all the WDs at Travelers, including poor Chase Koepka, My idea of bringing just top players for specialty events like the 24 needed for the Ryder Cup — as opposed to 160 players For mundane stroke play events — is looking better and better.

Monahan had at least 2 tough acts to follow as commissioner of golf, and now with how he is handling Corona, such as letting players on site while waiting for virus test results, Jay has an almost impossibly tough climb to get to those levels.
I feel for him but a lot of Jays problems are his own impatience.

Many talking heads on espn are saying the travelers should be cancelled. But if we know anything by now is that Mr Monahan is convinced his job is to do whatever it takes to play.

The pga tour needs to realize whatever gains they are making financially, they are losing as responsible leaders in the public eye.

I am glad people are golfing on tv. But I also feel kinda bad about it. I wonder how mr Monahan is feeling now?

The Sheriff Of Nottingham says they’ll tighten things up; Let’s not over-react…..you have two positive tests — none in Fort Worth — one at Hilton Head and one at The Travelers…..caddies seem to be the problem — two caddies this week…..Webb had a family member test positive who wasn’t even at a tournament site, so he withdrew, knowing he may have been exposed; Same for both Koepkas. It’s not such a bad thing, when a player tests positive, he gets a $100,000 “Stipend” to get him through the 10-day quarantine period. I think a lot of talking heads over-react; Not sure how it’s going to look for major league baseball and certainly, I’m not optimistic about college football and the NFL, that’s a lot of people to test. The Tour is going to have even more strict testing to up its protocol game. We’ll keep an eye on this as will everyone else.

Even that is kinda wierd. The tour doesn’t guarantee that much, and only 10$ thousand for caddies, and Monahan said they can get out of helping players if they identify mistakes, which sounds terrible because these players are playing because the tour is basically making them play.
The tour has safety mistakes happening everywhere.
Last week We saw on tv top players spitting just off greens, sharing forearm putters on the practice green, regular small talk, and so on.
If it gets crazy the tour may try to get awkwardly tough on its sick players, which would be a bad idea.
We can be positive but it’s kind of a mess.
