You see the ads on television — this club gives you more distance — buy this drive and add 10 more yards. Get your clubs fitted and gain 10 extra yards — buy this new high-tech tee and get four extra yards. Distance, distance distance, it’s the lure, the bait — the holy grail as far as most golfers go.
Today our DogLeg Director of Instruction — Josh Koch — brings us a nice interview with 2019 World Long Drive champion Kyle Berkshire.
Berkshire started out with clubhead speed in the low 140s and has gone well past 150 over a 36-month period.
So what’s the best way to gain clubhead speed?
“One simple thing,” responds Berkshire. “Get in the gym and get stronger.”
Great advice — there’s no shortcut to gaining distance. You may or may not recall that Tiger Woods went to work early in his career and totally transformed his body — basically he hit the gym and trained like a maniac and set the tone as more and more PGA Tour players are spending more and more time in the gym.
Want more distance, want to get better?
Work on the body — it’s good advice for all of us — no matter your skill level or age.
