LIV Comes Up With Shaky Scheme For World Ranking Points - Dog Leg News

About the author

Tom Edrington

Tom Edrington spent the first 10 years of his misguided youth as a sports writer for the Tampa Tribune. His career brought him face to face with many of sports greatest stars -- Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Muhammad Ali, Don Shula, countless Hall of Fame NFL stars, more PGA Tour players than he can count. In 1980 he was honored by the Golf Writers Association of America for writing the best news story that year, his coverage of Jack Nicklaus' U.S. Open victory at Baltusrol. Today, 36 years later, golf is still a great part of his life, thanks to competitive playing days and the wonderful people he has met on this fabulous journey.

You continue to throw punches and jabs at the LIV, is this driven by envy, hatred, jealousy or just biased media? Yes, there are those who have heard of the MENA tour, so what! You think this attempt will preclude LIV from getting OWGR points? Most of you media types would love to see them not get OWGR points, but they will eventually get them. Keep spewing the biased rhetoric , it will come back to bite you, one way or another

Nothing biting me! Fact: The OWGR requires entities to play 72-hole to quality for OWGR……so does LIV play 72 holes? No. And these qualification criteria were set forth when OWGR was formed…LIV wants everything done to fit their narrative….all organizations, companies, etc have rules. If you are employed by a company you basically have to abide by what it sets forth….LIV doesn’t want to abide by the existing rules — simple as that.

Catch 22.. the owgr rules are just a copy of the pga tour play book. An old stale model that is desperately in need of a refresh. So the only way into the ‘ecosystem’ is to copy the pga tour model. Impossible to innovate.

Hey Forky, while you were asleep, the OWGR was totally overhauled/revised just a short time ago, they even did a new website while they were at it….

All that changed was the strength of field calculation, to massively favor the pga tour. Every other tour is just going to slip off the radar. Especially the European tour when it gives its best 10 players to the pga tour every year. It’s a numbers game. Points gained and lost will just be shuffled around pga tour members. Once you lose your strength of field, there is no way back.

If you think a new website is innovation, then we are in trouble. Sometimes a new & different way to do things comes along. Otherwise we’d all still be counting on an abacus, measuring distances on miles/ yards/ feet and paying our bills with cheques. Oh wait, some backwards thinking folk still do some of these things.

I was being sarcastic about the website — the hard fact is that you have to be a 72-hole event to get ranking points — been that way since the system came into existence……until LIV goes to 72 holes, it does NOT meet the basic requirement…LIV wants everything changed to fit their narrative, typical of demands from something run by a regime — the Saudis are NOT good world citizens…..and this LIV stuff is of their doing….that’s why it’s considered tainted by their misdeeds — it’s pure sports-washing in its simplest form.
