Valderrama is winning.
After 54-holes of slugging it out with one of the toughest venues in Spain, there’s only one man under par at the Andalucia Masters and that would be American John Catlin.
Catlin, after opening with rounds of 69-70, built up a four-shot lead with two holes to play on Saturday but a bogey-bogey finish for 72 put him in the house at two-under par, just two in front of two-time major champion Martin Kaymer.
Catlin is looking for his first-ever European Tour win and he’ll have his work cut out for him. The finishing holes at Valderrama have proven the toughest with Catlin’s finish testifying to that.
Kaymer had the lowest round of the top contenders — a two-under par 69 that got him to even par for 54-holes.
Ryder Cup star Jamie Donaldson and Lorenzo Gagli, who made a hole-in-one from 203 yards on the short 12th, were another shot back in a tie for third.
Caitlin is not without experience. He won four times on the Asian Tour.
