Lexi Thompson wrapped up the 2019 LPGA Shoprite Classic title with an eagle at the final hole and the world’s No. 10 is back this week to defend her crown.
The LPGA Tour is back in action in New Jersey at the Seaview Resort where they will play the Bay Course. This year’s event moves to 72-holes and Thompson will have plenty of competition.
World’s No. 2 Nelly Korda will play as will No. 4 Brooke Henderson. Open champion Sophia Popov makes her first start since winning that major and ANA Inspiration champion Mirim Lee is in the field.
Thompson and the other contenders last year fought windy conditions over the final round and it was Thompson who picked up her 11th win.
After missing the ANA playoff by two shots, Thompson saw improvement in her game after spending time with her childhood instructor — Jimmy McLean. Thompson withdrew from the Portland Classic due to poor air quality from west coast wildfires.
Thompson has also switched management companies and is expanding her endorsement portfolio.
She has launched the LEXI” brand, with projects that center around “LEXI Golf,” “LEXI Fitness” and “LEXI Skin.” Her copper-based, anti-aging skin care is set to have a soft launch in December, with a full roll-out in the first quarter of 2021.
“I’m just very excited to have something other than golf,” said Thompson, “and something that I’m interested in and hopefully can help people’s skin, and my skin. The product is great. I’m already using it.”
