The PGA Tour absolutely hates controversy.
Nothing drives The Sheriff Of Nottingham (aka Commish Jay Monahan) more bonkers than when one of his charges takes a step in the wrong direction.
Enter Scott Piercy, who somehow went brain-dead and posted something on Twitter that got him in deep, deep doo-doo.
Piercy’s post about Pete Buttigieg, an openly gay politician read: “Peter Pulls Out Early From Behind.”
One of The Sheriff’s henchmen/spokesperson said:
“We were made aware of Scott’s post and are disappointed in the lack of judgment used.”
Unfortunately, Piercy tried an apology, but couldn’t get the Genie back in the proverbial bottle.
Said Piercy this past Tuesday: “Whenever I post my intent is NEVER to offend. I want to apologize if any of my recent story posts have been offensive. I will do better!”
The blow-back on Piercy was swift and costly.
Titleist and FootJoy, which are owned by Acushnet, have severed their relationship with Piercy.
Clothing company J. Lindeberg also gave Piercy the pink slip.
Piercy shot 71 on Thursday and the tour hasn’t said anything regarding punishment/suspension.
The tour simply said:
“It has been addressed with Scott directly.”
