Tom Edrington

Tom Edrington spent the first 10 years of his misguided youth as a sports writer for the Tampa Tribune. His career brought him face to face with many of sports greatest stars -- Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Muhammad Ali, Don Shula, countless Hall of Fame NFL stars, more PGA Tour players than he can count. In 1980 he was honored by the Golf Writers Association of America for writing the best news story that year, his coverage of Jack Nicklaus' U.S. Open victory at Baltusrol. Today, 36 years later, golf is still a great part of his life, thanks to competitive playing days and the wonderful people he has met on this fabulous journey.

It really is the story within the story that Xander deserves more for what he did. Maybe coke can sponsor a million dollar bonus for low score. Give the guy a medal. Something.

…yeah, Tom, now that it happened it’s as weird as we thought it would be, especially to Xander whom keeps shooting the lowest score and missing out on the big trophy.

At least last time Xander got that club trophy and recognition for shooting the best score. This time he got a T2 and Literally nothing else.

Some big golf mag guy said we should give this system a chance. That People on Twitter complain too much back and forth. No. This thing is a mess. It is still confusing. And purists really dislike it.

Sure DJ deserved to win. As chamblee said Dj was clinical in preserving the lead conservatively —dare I say it tiger like. Dj is playing in his typical effortless way but he is doing all the little things so well, from putting, course management, he was the best strategist this week. He grinder well. DJ handled his favorable cards extremely well.

But still, like last time but different Xander was the man when it comes to having the least strokes, which is what it’s all about…at least every other time.

Who cares what happened in the regular season?

Players should not be protected in the playoffs except for a few well earned select byes for regular season champs and playoff winners. Not even major winners should get byes. But Get this, maybe the players champ can get a first round bye.

Otherwise Just play off. Every event. And The top Half in each event move on. Winner at East lake regardless of format wins it all.

And Btw For competitive fairness The pga tour should offer a 4th west coast round in the playoffs.

Finally I have been critical of The pga tours aggressiveness with Covid, but it has been overall working (albeit not perfectly) and truly has provided some nice entertainment. Those special 9 holes charity events have been an amazing addition; hopefully something that continues. Some of us are still on and off on shut down so having the never ending tour on tv is one thing we have going for us.

On that note Now get some rest because the new season starts Thursday with a ceiling major the following week.

What a year. But just another year for Xander. Always a bridesmaid despite shooting the lowest score.

I’m wondering how they would have fared with my “less strokes and a few mulligans” format; D.J. would have trailed going into the final round and only had one mulligan…..depending on what the previous mulligans did or didn’t save for him!!
