Not sure what this was all about but it seemed that the PGA Of America felt compelled to name someone as an “Honorary Ambassador” for the 101st PGA Championship.
Why a major championship needs any sort of “Honorary Ambassador” is a head-scratcher.
So the PGA dug up some retired baseball player named David Wright.
Never heard of him, but then again, we follow golf, not baseball.
So they trot Wright out all week and have the television talking heads ask him all sorts of ridiculous questions.
And he ridiculously tried to answer them.
In the end, it was simply unnecessary window dressing.
So for that, whoever at the PGA Of America thought that one up can stay in the Dog House for at least a week — or until Brooks Koepka says they can come out.

Lame idea, for sure, but just for the record, David Wright was an all star third basemen for the New York Mets in the circa 2007 time period. As a die hard Phillies fan I had to detest him just on general principles, but he was a very, very good ballplayer and seemed like a decent guy as well.
I remember seeing him on TV playing with Donald Trump and a couple of other ballplayers when Trump hosted that show on Golf Channel called something like “Donald Trump’s World of Golf”. The Donald would host and play in a little match with some prominent pro athletes and present a trophy at the end of the match as I recall.

Yes, I became aware of Wright’s resume after the Golf Channel folks kept putting it out there about a dozen times…..I couldn’t name one player for the NY Mets these days, do follow our Rays, the best team in baseball with no highly-paid stars.
