Tom Edrington

Tom Edrington spent the first 10 years of his misguided youth as a sports writer for the Tampa Tribune. His career brought him face to face with many of sports greatest stars -- Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Muhammad Ali, Don Shula, countless Hall of Fame NFL stars, more PGA Tour players than he can count. In 1980 he was honored by the Golf Writers Association of America for writing the best news story that year, his coverage of Jack Nicklaus' U.S. Open victory at Baltusrol. Today, 36 years later, golf is still a great part of his life, thanks to competitive playing days and the wonderful people he has met on this fabulous journey.

A lot will be said in the next 24 months for sure. But it’s very simple, it will not be a bomber paradise as it was at shaved like a poodle whistling straits. As a result players like Hovland and Fitzpatrick will shine, while the American bombers will be hacking certainly a lot more.
    It should be much closer.
The US team has finally leaned to chill out at the Ryder Cup since they last did it for Azinger. Can they keep it up regardless of who’s on the team? It’s not about old guard or individuals. It’s about the culture. The European team has had a solid culture win or lose and now the Americans have one as well. It is now kinda of back in Europe’s court to take their culture to the next level. Certainly new faces are on the way as familiar faces will exit. But the European team need to believe if this thing was held on their terms things could have been very different. That will give them the confidence they need to bounce back in aroma.

I was watching the European Tour event played recently at Marco Simone Golf Club…..I wasn’t that impressed with the layout….I think Jordan Spieth may have said that this team needs to prove itself by winning on Foreign soil….winning at home is one thing, on the road is yet another…..we have 24 months to anticipate…

There’s no doubt the US will be very motivated to prove they can win again across the pond; which makes Europe’s quest that much more difficult.
